Artificial intelligence experts criticize Grok developer xAI for security: "Completely irresponsible"

As AI companies compete against each other in the rapidly evolving chatbot market, security and ethical standards are being questioned more than ever. In particular, the recent responses to Grok , a chatbot developed by Elon Musk 's xAI company, have sparked controversy in the industry. Consequently, xAI has drawn criticism from some AI experts.
'COMPROMISING ON SECURITY'Experts have criticized xAI, the developer of Grok, for ignoring security standards in the race to develop powerful chatbots. Researchers allege the company is compromising security while rolling out increasingly powerful chatbots.
These criticisms arose after a series of glitches involving xAI's chatbot, Grok. Over the past few weeks, Grok has made anti-Semitic remarks, posted inappropriate replies, posted profanities and insults about various people and topics, and referred to himself as "MechaHitler." The company has also recently launched AI companions in the form of a hyper-sexualized anime girl and an aggressive panda.
Boaz Barak, a security researcher at OpenAI, said in a statement on his X account, "I didn't want to post about Grok's security because I work for a rival company, but the issue isn't competition. I appreciate the scientists and engineers at xAI, but the way security is being handled is completely irresponsible."
According to the AutoGPT report, Anthropic's Samuel Marks acknowledged that no company is perfect, but claimed that xAI appeared to have skipped even the most basic security steps.
COMING BACK TO THE AGENDA WITH GROK NEWS: IS STATE REGULATION ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON THE WAY?California State Senator Scott Wiener and New York Governor Kathy Hochul are pushing bills that would force AI companies to publish safety reports, a bill that has gained momentum as news like Grok has dominated the news cycle.
Researchers suggest that bad behavior by chatbots is already impacting people's trust, emotional health, and the reputation of the companies that develop these systems.
